and even if you don't know that, i think plenty of people know that juries are composed of 12 people. and by the end of things, usually 12 angry people.

yeah, he didn't know when he made the wager...that's why it's kinda funny in the video when you can see the look of relief on his face when he sees his clue.

it wasn't so dumb a move to bet 18000

if he had bet just enough to get 2x the other guy's score, the other kid still could have caught up to half of his score with the last few clues of the round

assuming one kid swept all the remaining questions, the highest he could go was 16,800. or, one half of 33,600. never mind that the other kid wasn't going to do that, leonard still over-wagered. he also put himself in a position where a 'wrong' answer basically would end his day.

it wasn't really stupid so much as it was highly unnecessary.

There's supposed to be a category devoted to the works of Stephen King tonight according to his message board...hope I remember I'll sweep that one easily.

There was a question about the wire last night, and the pretty girl knew it, but she still lost

I always feel bad when there's a sports category, especially for Final Jeopardy

those folks were hopeless

that category could provide spoilers to anyone in the middle of a stephen king book. they might not know if a character is going to die or not

 they will

how in the hell did I forget to take the online test?

it was 3/6 by the way. so much for my college tournament dreams. so much for all of our dreams.

Thanks... don't get too excited though, I did the same thing 2 years ago, and took a giant brain dump at the live auditions. But at least I'll have an excuse to get out of town for a bit. I've never really hung out in Nashville before, except for when I visited Vanderbilt in high school, and stupidly decided not to attend.

the current controversy is over how Jeopardy! could conscionably air repeats from LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. it's always shitty when they do their summertime repeats, but this is something else.

pretty embarrassing that 3 teachers on the show tonight didn't know the name of Canada's current prime minister.

Has anyone been keeping up with the Battle of the Decades tournament that is going on right now? Always nice to see Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter runaway with games but also really cool seeing 80's jeopardy stars on the show.

sad news indeed. you just take it for granted that you are going to hear his voice most evenings, he was a ritual for my family. right after dinner everyone watched. he seems resolute in doing all he can, that is an awesome place to start.

jeopardy! has been a constant part of my entire life. therefore, so has alex trebek. nowadays, each episode is always the first thing i watch on my dvr when i come home from work and need to wind down from a long day. @DAntae, you said it better than i ever could about taking him and the show for granted, and his positivity towards the diagnosis. well said as always, dan

FUCK CANCER. beat this shit, alex, and fulfill your contract!

how are we not talking about James and his incredible run. he has a tried and true system, but the randomness of his wagers is what I find the most fascinating. like, what is running through his mind when he pulls these numbers from. granted I am sure he has a grand scheme in mind. he also seems to sync his clicking his controller to respond perfectly. it is almost can't miss tv. he also comes off as slightly awkward, but seems so genuine with his semi forced smile every time they read off his total earnings.

love watching him, and i'm glad to see that some contestants are getting the hint of how to actually compete against him (even if the games are almost always blowouts). when someone picks first in double jeopardy or gets control of the board before any daily doubles have been found and picks a 200/400 dollar clue i'm boggled

also, your av is semi-relevant @Dantae, since james looks like ken marino to me

my favorite aspect of how he plays is the understanding of where he is weak on certain subjects. if you notice, sometimes if it is a category he seems unsure of he will choose the middle clue to gauge how difficult the subject is. worst case someone else knows and gets the lower dollar total, or he finds out how strong they are on the subject. it is easy to say he is playing a few moves ahead, but it is true. so cool to see someone bring a real strategy to the game and just not trying to outlast the competition.

when he gets the second round daily doubles I always hope it is a wide shot to see the other contestants faces/reactions. the other great part is when Trebek says 'you all are playing for 2nd place today' before the final. it is not a dig but it does just have a way about it when you hear it out loud.
