So glad to have this back on TV.

Tonight's episode was a fine way to jump back into the series. Not a ton of dramatics, and of course we couldn't touch base with every character, but it got us all up to speed with whats happened since Blackwater Bay and set the ball rolling on several story lines.

The handling of the cloaked character Daenerys meets at the end of the episode is handled quite a bit differently than in the books. In the book, he saves her then travels with her for quite awhile before anyone figures out who he is.

yeah but that reveal wouldn't be something they could get away with on tv since you can see who the character is, unlike when you're reading. that ending scene is probably pretty awesome for those whom haven't read the book though.

Yeah, I understand why they felt they had to do it for the purpose of TV.

In the books he follows her for awhile trying to see if she's nuts like her dad before revealing himself, and in his reveal he has some pretty important info. I guess for TV he can still reveal the info eventually, after testing the waters to see if she's nuts or not.

Unfortunately it may mean there's no Strong Belwas character in the TV... he's not that essential but would've been interesting.

The first one I downloaded did that too. tvtorrents nuked the file and now has a fixed version. Not sure if it was broadcast like that in some markets or what since that actually was the music for the credits. It just started early for some reason.

Yeah I saw that there some problem with the torrents, so I waited for some confirmation over that was the right one to get. But I'm still utterly confused by the use of that song, did it really air like that? Was it a mistake?

having read the books, i had to rack my brain to figure out what the heck they were doing with the theon arc. still kinda unsure to be honest. without spoiling anything that seems to be the biggest departure from the book in the episode.

well the guy who rescues him is pretty clearly ramsay. it's just an extended, more convoluted version of his hunts in the books.

“It’s such a shocking ending and when we read the scene in the books it was so shocking to us,” Weiss says. “To really hammer home the shock of that moment you need something unexpected. There’s no version of a traditional score that would keep you as off balance as we wanted that scene to leaving you feeling.”

“I can’t imagine having that conversation with Ramin [Djawadi] our composer —   ‘Now we need the Jaime-gets-his-hand-chopped-off music,’”   adds Benioff. who made his directorial debut with this episode. “What we always loved in An American Werewolf in London, we see our hero shot and killed and then his lover runs to embrace his dead body — it’s a sad ending — but then we cut to black and it’s [the bouncy 1961 Marcell's hit] ‘Blue Moon.’ And that jarring juxtaposition was fantastic.”

Well the effect it had was to make me think it was a mistake and then laugh at the silliness of it. So if that was intended it was a good choice.

Lants, it would be so gory and gruesome if it wasn't changed for tv.

Hmm... I dunno,   the Boltons are pretty fucked up with their ways of torture, but would Ramsay kill his own men just to keep up the ruse? I think they might be "simplifying" his storyline because the shit that happens to him in the book... would be hard to show on TV

yeah, the written medium allows you to hear theon's inner monologue and how his mind gets warped and messed up over time. that would be really hard to convey on screen. im not so sure it has so much to do with the messed up nature of some of the tortures he suffers.

yeah it's obviously ramsay. after he killed the men i started to get confused for a split second, but then one of them calls him a "dirty bastard" before dying. that pretty much sealed it

Kind of saw that coming, so it wasn't a surprise or anything, but was still cool to see it play out. Bummer to see Mormont get taken out by his own people. Overall, I think it's better this year than it was last year.

The Night's Watch rebellion strikes me as being the best way to force the audience to switch sides when Snow and the wildlings reach the wall

It was a great episode all around. The last scene was visually satisfying.

I flipped when I realized Grandma Tyrell was Diana Rigg.
