its not the vulgarity of fandom that gets to me

its that the media feeds into it. or worse act like scurrilous fans. its not fox news

orient-droylsden in the fa cup last night sounded insane. droylsden are winning 2-0 with 15 minutes to go but orient knock in two before the final whistle and score a further six in extra time. and both teams were reduced to nine men. must've been great.

haha yeah that can happen when a football league side plays a non-league side. i remember last season in the fa cup, leeds played.. i can't remember who, but it was 1-1 at the end of regular time, and leeds went on to win 5-1 in extra time. that orient match sounds even more insane though

so alan pardew has signed with newcastle, on a five and a half year (!) contract

so our new manager is a bloke that was sacked from a league 1 side earlier this year. i am brimming with confidence

why do man city play so conservatively away from home? they're playing 4-5-1 against the team that is bottom of the league. a team with that amount of talent should at least be playing 4-4-2

to their credit they still pulled out three goals. it seems david silva hasn't had any transition problems from la liga...

suck it british media

man city loves playing 3 holding midfielders. almost always a 4-5-1

wouldnt wanna bet future successes on joey bartons availability

at any rate newcastle totally deserved the win. carrolls goal was boss

& another typically abject liverpool away performance! yuck yuck yuck

prolly a galvanisation of the team following hughton's departure rather than the new manager having any effect but whatever a wins a win

sam allardyce sacked from blackburn.. this seems like another strange decision ala newcastle. rovers weren't doing so badly were they? weird

champions league round of 16 draw

roma vs shakhtar donetsk
ac milan vs spurs
valencia vs schalke
inter vs bayern
lyon vs real madrid
arsenal vs barcelona
marseille vs man u
copenhagen vs chelsea

getting some deja vu. arsenal and barcelona & lyon and real madrid played each other in the knockout stages last year.. and of course 2010 CL final rematch. wouldn't surprise me to see bayern come out on top this time

not expecting so much out of lyon this year, even with gourcuff in the mix. mourinho's getting through the first knockout stage. inter - bayern, really not that interested. can copenhagen's good form take them over chelsea? i hope, i hope, i hope.

and c'mon fulham! anyone can beat liverpool!

i'm probably most interested in ac milan vs spurs. if spurs could tighten up their defence then i reckon they have a good shot. they have youth and pace which is what milan lacks so i could see gareth bale having a monstrous night at the san siro (again)

arsenal vs barcelona will be interesting too.. its always fun to watch two sides with that possession football style coming up against each other. of course barca are far superior and will likely demolish the gunners again but it'll be good to watch

yeah milan-spurs should be a good one.

almost all of the british games are off today. we're hosting the only game in leagues one or two. I guess they're just that keen to play a home game, we haven't in about a month.

Ipswich vs. Leicester is going ahead. Ipswich fans that I've spoken to are claiming this is the biggest game in Roy Keane's career (seriously? european cup finals, maybe?) but, regardless of their slightly overexcited assesment of the situation, supposedly Keane will be gone if we beat them today.

ipswich have lost something like 7 in a row yeah? i think their performance in the league cup is the only reason why keane's still there

and yeah, way too many postponements. was looking forward to the brum game today. ah well.

5-1! can't believe it. I await seeing the 30 seconds of it they show on the football league show tonight.

and well done to 800 people for somehow managing to get down there from sheffield today.

the bbc were showing pictures from the emirates a while ago. I'm at home for christmas now and that's the most I'd seen it snow there. I assumed it was just because no one from stoke could get down there. my poor flatmates are stuck there with no central heating.
