Can't believe Detroit beat San Jose 7-1 last night! They still have to win three games in a row to win the series though, San Jose just needs one win. My money is still on San Jose to win this thing, they better dammit.

Shitty playoffs. Assuming the Cancuks are done, the only team left to root for is Pittsburgh and Montreal and of course, they're playing each other. Damn you, hockey.

I'm predicting a Sharks-Bruins cup and a ridiculous amount of Joe Thornton hype.

i'm not usually that big on discussing intangibles or things like that, but if there were ever a team that clearly lacked any sort of strength of character, it would be the bruins. not even strictly talking about this year, though 09-10 has been worse than most. there isn't a single guy out there who senses highs or lows, no one who is willing to hit, no one willing to drop down to block shots. if you're going to play this brand of hockey, at least learn how to dive. jeremy jacobs' complete indifference to assembling a winner is infectious, and seems to manifest itself every playoff season (assuming the b's make it that far).
as much as i like chara, he's no leader. as high as i have been on julien in the past, he has been outcoached at every turn this series, favoring the diplomatic, little league "everyone gets a chance to play" approach, even if you're as useless as wheeler or wideman. only that meaningless goal last night desprives them of a chance at the rare feat of not only choking on a 3-0 lead, but also being shut out the last 200 minutes of the series.
i used to worship this team when i was ten years old, and it would have been impossible to imagine then that i wouldn't even be nervous or frustrated as the team verged on one of the sport's greatest choke jobs. but when a franchise spends so much time whittling your expectations down to nothing, it's hard to muster much of a response.

My deepest sympathies, Danno. I was rooting for Bylsma as always.

i love how the 6 and 7 seeds are playing a game 7 for home ice advantage in the conference finals

this is why the stanley cup playoffs are 100x better than the nba playoffs... they really are this unpredictable

i mentioned to one of my friends (a pens fan) after the pens were up 3-2 that if the series went 7, i wouldn't be surprised at all if the habs won. they remind me of a couple other lower-seeded teams from recent memory (2003 ducks, 2006 oilers) that got hot at the right time, rode some hot goaltending, and made it deep into the playoffs (all the way to the finals in the case of those two teams).

this is a year in which we're left with five teams and i have no idea who is going to end up winning it all. a case could be made for any of the teams. but as i've said, i'll be satisfied with anyone but the blackhawks... fuck the blackhawks.

Completely shocked the Habs were able to win the series. Really didn't think they had a chance. Halak though was again great and they just got the job done. Less than inspiring effort from the Pens though. Where was Malkin? Showed up for one game and was invisible the rest. Don't even get me started on Gonchar. That was beyond embarrasing. Even Sid was pretty bad most of the series. Huge credit to the Habs though and I think they have a pretty good chance next round against a couple beat up teams.

I sure do miss Cammalleri.

I'm amazed as well. Really was hoping for Boston to win, Montreal would have an easier time getting to the finals if they were facing Boston. Since Boston only beat Montreal once in the regular season. Philadelphia and Montreal are tied for wins against each other in the regular season. Should be an interesting series though, I will be watching.

Really pulling for Blackhawks and Montreal to make up the finals.

A bit late but my predictions.

Hawks in 7. Just a deeper team and Hossa has to make the finals again.

Habs in 6. Halak will need to continue to be hot and I think he will. Should be a good series.

i know we all want montreal to make it as a sentimental pick, but let's face it. they fucking suck and were lucky to advance thus far. the flyers suck too, but are the better team. im pulling for the habs, but picking philly.

flyers in 6
hawks in 5

i, like everyone in the world probably, really doubted montreal going into the playoffs (i almost jokingly posted the caps would win their series in 3 before the first round started), but they've proven to me they're a team that can persevere and make some noise. i certainly wouldn't have guessed they'd get this far, but now that they have... who's to say they can't make it to the finals? as unpredictable as these playoffs have been (in the east especially), i think it could happen. like i've said before, they remind me so much of that 2003 low-seeded ducks team riding giguere all the way to the finals. as long as halak rebounds from today's game, they have a shot. but he's the key for the habs; when he goes, they go.

i guess the whole point of this post is fuck the blackhawks.

montreal didnt really play that same system in the regular season. i mean, they'd get called for 10 penalties a game. plus it relies on such a small margin for error that it really wouldnt surprise me if they got throttled by the flyers. if either of those italian dudes go cold, yikes

but i've been saying that for a month now

everyone here is basically crowning the hawks champs and getting all excited

part of me wants to see them melt down against philly just because. it was awesome when it happened to the cubs in 2003
