Good episode overall. Like the way they showed Tyrion's ploy, cutting from conversation to conversation.
Also thought it was a good idea to combine the assault on Yoren's escorts with Arya's eventual capture at the town into one scene. The show, for various reasons (budget for one, destruction & battles are expensive), hasn't been playing up the degree of terrorism going on in the books to the countryside. Its an easier story method to just make it seem like they were captured by the people looking for Gendry.

sean, you 100% nailed the margeary characterization. while trying not to spoil too much important from later books, throughout storm of swords at least she is presented as nothing more than an innocent playmate for sansa and naive pawn fiancé for you know who. her understanding of the game isn't revealed until feast for crows, and it provides that extra impact to the climax of cersei's arc. ill be interested to see how the show runners end up giving us the cersei story in crows, along with some earlier developments, now that we have a more omniscient perspective.

i read way, way ahead of the series these past two days. the show obviously doesn't follow the same pace or order, but it has some amazing source material to work with for this episode and the next few
cant wait to see how they handle arya's capture and the death of renly |

Pretty enjoyable. Seems like they cheated their way out of showing another battle scene though. Part that lead up to it was pretty fun though.

oh man, have fun with that. definitely one of the most just purely entertaining books ever; pretty much every payoff/plot thread/scene is awesome.

the character on the show's name was something like tusilla, which is not even close to his wife's name in the books. the shadow thing really freaked me the fuck out, even though i knew it was coming. my reaction was pretty much in line with davos'. |

not the most thrilling episode, but i enjoyed it. they really started out with a bang there.
costumes were great. loved that crazy-ass dress margeary was wearing in the scene when she said she wanted to be "THE queen." does anyone know where they film this show?

IIRC, next book will be split up between two seasons, so that'll slow it down a bit. And I think the next book is supposed to be the last one in the series. Don't think it'll be a problem.

Yeah, I guess you're right. For some reason I keep thinking the last book that came out was the 6th. Reading what I saw, it appears like the next one will come out fairly quick (by his standards).

I'm almost halfway through the book, and I want to be upset with how much they've change from the book, but at the heart of it, I think, up to this point, it's been a really slow moving, dull story. They've cut out big sections of story that go nowhere, made other bits go quicker and more interesting and just made stuff up for the show. (nothing spoiled in book talk coming up) A few days ago I read a chapter that went on and on about who was there, what they were wearing, where they were sitting, what food was being served. Sure it paints a nice picture, but good god it's dull reading. I was glad when the chapter finally ended only to go right into another chapter with another dinner reading about who was there, what they were wearing, where they were sitting and what food was being served.
I understand it gets better later on, but I'm not surprised that I'm about halfway through the book and starting to catch up to the show in it's 7th episode. Someone on another board feels this was the weakest episode yet and doesn't really accomplish anything. I don't totally agree with that, but I don't think he's far off. |

The point of a TV show or film adaption isn't to transcribe the book. I've not read them, so I don't know, I might even agree if I did, but there's probably a good reason why the writers made the changes, they would have discussed them with Martin in the room.

And that's sorta what I was getting at. The book has been rather dull and they've had to change so much just to keep things going by chopping so much of it out and changing most of the rest. It's something they didn't need to do the first season. After every episode I probably spend almost an hour at work talking to a friend about it all, and more often than not when I read the part in the book and compare it to the show, I'm saying something like, "I understand the changes they've made for the show," and like I said above, sometimes go quicker and are more interesting. He doesn't necessarily seem to agree, but he's read all the books and knows more about it all, so he avoids talking much about it to avoid spoiling something for me.

i just finished a feast for crows and i really hope they don't follow that book very closely. an ok book, but i don't see it making for an interesting ten hours of television.

i think that after this season they'll have a much harder time matching up one season to one book. i imagine the plot points from the books will be depicted in a much more loose and nebulous manner.
even in this week's episode, that final scene between catelyn and jaime was the very last chapter of book two, so clearly they don't mind moving around certain plot developments. besides, how on earth could they possibly fit book three into ten episodes? i think a really good cutoff for seasons three/four would be the red wedding . |

99% sure it's already been confirmed book 3 will be split up between two 10 episode seasons.
