I still remember the lead up to that episode with all the teasers from ABC about big questions being answered. And then that.

LOST was the last appointment tv show for me and I really miss that.

I'm kinda amazed I managed to get Joshua to sit and watch LOST and he ended up mostly liking it. I found myself kinda tired of certain peoples shenanigans the second time around, like Kate. I dunno what it was but I spent a lot of time saying "ugh damn it Kate."

even with the diminished view i had of lost after the second time, i still agree with this. lost was an issue of writers backing themselves into a million corners but it was always trying interesting stuff and there's still a lot to admire about the ambition even if it ultimately doesn't come together in a super coherent way and even if the steps taken to get there feel really contrived sometimes. plus, like i said, i liked the lost finale when it aired and only dislike it more in retrospect which is something i can't say about the breaking bad finale which left me cold immediately.

it probably didn't help that i had just finished watching the shield for the first time, which basically has the same general arc as breaking bad but executes it so, so much better.

i think i posted this in the thread when it happened, but i laughed so hard at walt laying on the floor dying leading into "WELL I GUESS I GOT WHAT I DESERVED". same with walt skulking around gretchen and elliot's house and calling them "the beautiful people" like some kind of batman villain.

I got lost somewhere at the end of the fifth season and stopped watching for a while and never found the time or guts to watch the final episodes... rewatching 'Police Squad!' though

i only had to work half a day today so i'm already drinking. i got invited to a few work-related parties but i don't like being drunk around co-workers and i need to drink for this. i might go to one with a group of other friends but i also just kind of want to watch a ton of shitty cable news and laugh at GOP people melting down on twitter and just taking it all in.

I want Trump to get immediately impeached or get sucked into a patch of zero matter maybe because I wouldn't want to see him get sniped on live tv.

I'm not even American, but it bothers me that the majority of voters think Trump is gonna be a good president.
I can't fucking believe that that idiot is gonna represent America.

I am gonna shut down the first person who even mentions the election to me.

Maybe not the first person...but I'm certainly gonna make it clear that they have 30 seconds to stop talking about it before I get irrationally angry.

Why is this country so fucking gross?

yeah i have so many things i want to say about this but no idea how to say them and i just feel numb.

the worst part is seeing all of the "well, sure this is bad but we need to learn how to come together and get along and *other bullshit centrist platitudes*" on facebook this morning. no, we just elected a fucking quasi-fascist and very real authoritarian president. and we did it because we've spent 30 fucking years normalizing right wing extremism by acting like GOP obstructionism, mass incarceration, the destruction of unions and the welfare state, voter suppression, and a million other things are somehow valid viewpoints being espoused by people who have the country's best interest at heart. but it's not valid and it's not about the country's best interest or something you can just agree to disagree with because it causes a lot of fucking awful material consequences and one of those consequences is that it creates a runway towards something like trump. this is an ideology that's inherently built around oppression people to benefit a small group of privileged people and the only difference between trump and george w. bush is that trump eschewed political norms and stated it directly. and trump was only able to do that in the first place because bush was seen as reasonable or respectable so it got fucking legitimized.

i also just worry that one of the main takeaways in the press is going to be shitting on populism or the idea of democracy ("wow, voters sure are dumb!") and that's the opposite of the conclusion that needs to be drawn. populism in of itself isn't a bad thing and left wing populism is the most likely avenue for defeating this strain of white nationalism. but in the US we just assume that all populism is inherently reactionary because the party that's supposed to engage with that side of the left has mostly abandoned or actively fought against it. we know that populism works, obviously, we just need to do it from our side now, not theirs. we all talk about how this stuff has to come from the ground up, and left populism is how you do that. and i'm afraid that's going to get lost in the debris of all of this.

i dunno i guess i'll just end this on an earnest note and say i've been doing political organizing here for like a year and a half now and will just say that if you're angry and frustrated and sad there are other people who feel the same way who are trying to do what little they can to chart some course of progress and i'm sure they'd love to have you.

join your local BLM group. maybe your workplace has a union that's pushing for gender pay equity, join it. lots of cities have new tenants unions, if you rent go join one. the democratic socialists of america is in basically every state, so is socialist alternative. if you care about foreign policy, BDS is growing and needs people. maybe there's someone in your city organizing around the pipeline stuff, join them. fight for 15 seems to be winning in a ton of states, go help! this is gonna be cheesy as fuck but the only thing that stops this type of action from working is staying silent because you've convinced yourself it doesn't matter. but it does.

today has been much more annoying in a red state. as soon as I got to work I got the 'KILLary', 'lock her up' comments from several people. they just kept repeating how this is a win for the middle class, middle class this, middle class that. just went to my office and felt bad about the end result.

I have looked at numbers until my eyes hurt. how did trump get that much of the latino vote? I cant even wrap my head around that.

speaking of numbers, it's worth noting that most poor people that actually voted did so for hillary.

i think that needs to constantly be pointed out because there tends to be an impulse to blame poor white people for "voting against their self-interest" but once again most poor people regardless of race/gender/ethnicity either vote dem or don't vote.

this is reactionary class war being posed by a blue collar middle class that's deluded itself into thinking it's working class. i hate it.

because donald trump is a persecuted anti-hero who's going to lock up the bad guys on behalf of the white middle class so they can achieve transcendent glory through their attachment to his greatness.

would highly recommend this for anyone looking for answers:

One of my in-laws in the bible belt has a photo saying "the police are the most mistreated in America, THAT"S ABOUT TO CHANGE" with Trump in the middle and a small "Blue Lives Matter" in the corner.

Just whatever already. And the fucking KKK celebrating...jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus America.

i keep thinking about impeachment but unfortunately i think it's pretty obvious that the only reason the GOP ran from the guy as much as they did is because they thought he was going to lose and it'd hurt them if they didn't.

now that he's won, he has a GOP congress that will certainly kiss his ass to get whatever horrible regressive legislation they want signed so there's just no way.
