for my playoff pool(s) purposes, i have the habs, pens, sharks, and ducks in the conference finals.

would not have a problem with either montreal or pittsburgh winning it, but pulling for the canadiens.

Sens in 5. Nah, at this point, Pens in 5 might seem satisfying. It's gotten that sad.

Part of me wants to root for the Habs, but there's another part that would like to see all the people who are making the Price '08 = Roy '86 = Dryden '71 leap proven wrong.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Ovechkin can do in his first postseason.

red wings to go 16-0 and dominate

haven't really watched a lot of hockey this year, but i'll be sure to be glued to the playoffs. i'm expecting a tough fought series with nashville. even with the preds having a bit of an off year by their standards, they always play the wings tough. wings should win in 6.

Love the play of the flames so far. If we stay out of the box we have a great shot at upsetting the Sharks.

How bout Oveckhin? Nice comeback by the Caps and a pretty clutch play by Ovie for the winner.

oh my god ovechkin

i hope he scores a game 7 OT winner in the finals

his celebration is likely to be so insane that he takes his skate off and cuts his throat and everyone goes nuts until they realize what they just saw

Quote:
"He's going to the hospital to get an ultrasound done on his testicles. It's bad enough they may have to remove one," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "Right now, we're not sure how serious it is, but there's a chance he may need surgery."
awful to see this happen though, especially on the winning goal. gotta feel for thoresen, especially as an oilers fan.

Yeah Baby!! What a hit by my boy Sarich!! Best hockey game I have ever been to. Terrible first 3 and a half minutes, but I still thought we were going to tie it up. When Nolan's shot went it the dome went absolutely nuts. Never been so happy. Just still in shock.

funny, i probably would have been happier when they were actually in the finals if i were you

still a massive hit though

usually people only bleed from their eyes when they're dead

Never been happier at a game. Don't think I'll ever forget seeing Nolan's slapshot beat Nabokov.

i'll be pulling for the penguins in this one, but i'm mostly hoping for a good series. at the very least, more competitive than most of those we've seen in earlier rounds this year.

happy with the matchup though. pretty much a best case scenario for the nhl.

go pens but i have a feeling this cup might be detroit's, only because in semi-recent history, young, dynasty-like teams have had to take a tough loss in a conference final or cup final before they win it all a couple times

well, i mean it in a modified sense. there is no way in the structure of pro sports today to keep a group of 12-15 guys together over 6 or 7 years of time and win like crazy

i consider the wings a modern day dynasty in the fact that they've had a core of 5 or 6 players that have put the team at the top of the league consistently for almost 10 years.

pittsburgh will potentially, and ideally, have fleury, whitney, letang, malone, staal, crosby and malkin together until 2012. it remains to be seen what kind of success they will have though because the cap will become an issue.

this is why i think they made a big mistake in getting hossa. sure, they did make their odds better this year, but armstrong and to a lesser extent christenson were the kind of 3rd line guys that would be important to keep together on a team that wants to stay intact, and win, for a number of years.

esposito was potentially, although looking less and less likely, a guy who would chip in a few years down the road, and help tow the line of keeping the team together.

As a Penguins fan, I am extremely excited. It still hasn't dawned upon me that the team is actually in the Finals until I see Game 1.

That being said, I think the Red Wings have stumbled more than they should have in the playoffs and are bound to take this series. I got them in 6. I hope I am wrong.

is it standard to have over half a week in between series?

hossa was a 'big' mistake if they dont make the finals but at most its a small one. they have to win this year with depth, but in 3-5 years they'll have to win with star players

christensen and armstrong are rfa's after next year and its pretty unlikely that the pens have the money to sign them (assuming that they would have had a solid playoff year anyway)

could get a larger attendance if they held it at soldier field, but something about having it at wrigley instead just seems a lot more appealing to me for some reason.

also, congratulations on chicago finally landing an nhl team, andy

was expecting them to choose soldier field if they were to do this in chicago, but it was probably some John McDonough Magic that made them choose wrigley

prepare for some really oddball seating layout a la bears games pre-1970s

during the game two press conference all therrien did was bitch about how osgood dives, kronwall leaves his feet every time he hits, and that we clog up the neutral zone with lots of illegal obstruction. he said he was taking his complaints straight to bettman.

you said the pens, not the coach. lilja and zetterberg were bitching about the pens using the sticks too much too

the one penalty in game two was osgood sticking his glove out and then falling over, though. kronwell does leave his feet alot, but plenty of players do

Seriously everyone has got to agree with me, but for some reason the Wings get away with a LOT of obstruction. Maybe they are just good at it, but it seems like they hook and hold and never get called. Or is it just me?

I've also enjoyed seeing Holmstrom get screwed over a couple times this postseason. He has got away with murder in the past and it is satisfying to see it come back to bite him somewhat.

Really hope the Penguins can make this a series. Fuck the red wings.
