anyone watching?

I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st episode of the season. I love negan as a character, and while it comes off as over the top...it plays well. the intro of the kingdom (which I love in the comic) fell a little flat for me. Ezekiel shined, but it all seemed rushed. like they had to cram the kingdom, the backstory of Ezekiel and Carol's decision all into one episode. sort of ruined the fun of discovering what the kingdom actually is.

just saw episode 3 last night. I know what they are setting up for, but this was a boring ass episode. dwight's sandwich looked awesome though.

i thought the premier episode sucked dicks, tbh. for one thing, talk about boring. it was one scene (a scene which we already saw for the most part last season) dragged out and milked to fill an entire hour. it took half the fucking run time to finally reveal something that should have been in last season's finale, and the only parts that were new were gratuitous torture-porn

i've liked the last two episodes considerably more, but i think the main problem with this show is that they insist on segregating the cast to their own separate episodes instead of just jumping between different storylines each week. i don't know if this enables them to somehow pay the cast less or if they actually think this is a good plot device, but if it's the latter they're so wrong. it's been three weeks and we havent even seen anyone properly react to the deaths of glenn and abraham. just like dragging it out over the summer made those deaths lose the emotional resonance they may have had, now we're going to see people mourning and be like "oh yeah that." it's just dumb bad storytelling

the reveal did take some time (was it really 40 minutes in? seemed like less), but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing rick's spirit being broken. when they went in the rv with the hatchet..I assumed rick was losing a hand (like in the comic, even if it was a different way). then to see the end game was to punish rick by taking carl's hand. that was a nice addition in my opinion. then rick resigns himself to this new order. pretty solid for me.

I think the reveal was absurd anyhow. I think we discussed this before, but no need to make that a cliffhanger. show who takes the shots from lucille and then close on that.

it was an odd transition to make the kingdom the sole direction of episode 2 and not have any closure for the characters after what they lost in the opener.

Last episode was filmed 3 blocks from my house. True story.

Decent chance I could get a bit part on the show if I were home more; I need to get fired, obv.

do you live around senoia (spelling)? I visited there a couple years ago right before the terminus storyline. I was able to walk up pretty close to the station, and saw a scene being filmed. it was right in the middle of a neighbor hood which susrprised me.

senoia also has a move studio, which of course was access only. turning around from the gate I was able to see the buses used when the prison was evacuated.

then made the trip into town. it was where they shot a lot of the woodbury scenes. that was pretty cool to see. they have a gift shop/museum which was way better than expected.

Nah, a bit farther north than that. There's an old army base near here that Tyler Perry bought, and when he's not using it for one of his godawful tranny movies he rents it out to other studios (that's where The Kingdom scenes were filmed). The scene near my house was the one at the beginning where Carol et al were killing walkers; it's an abandoned apartment complex.

wait, i thought they were in the DC suburbs now?!!

seriously, i know they still film there but would it kill them to at least try to not make it obvious that "alexandria" is actually rural georgia?

What made it obvious it was GA and not VA?

It could be some areas of VA, sure. But Alexandria is just outside D.C. and looks like this:

the last episode had a ton of lines word for word from the comic. I was hoping for the last quote but was not expecting it.

still what a weird episode. they did not create the sense of fear that the comic has in regards to negan. they could have easily taken him and the saviors out. they could have set up explosives, snipers etc and took them out at the gate. potential loss of darryl, or opened the gate and mowed them all down with the rocket launcher. also likely loss of darryl. just had to vent that for arguments sake.

i assume the saviors had the place surrounded, but you're right they didn't really establish that in the show and if you hadn't read the comics you probably would get the idea that it really was just these 30 or so people

i also figured carl wouldn't go with negan in the show since daryll has sort of already taken that role

I was wondering about that. they did show the truck doors open when it was leaving. I thought maybe that was to give a nod to the comic readers that Carl was able to sneak away. guess we will see.

the only thing with that story...Carl was much younger at this point in the comics, at least that's how I remembered it.

Yeah way less time has passed in the comics but when you have actors (especially children) there's not much you can do about that. But

putting this in tags because it may have been from the "next week on" clips and I know some people don't like t watch those, but it shows Carl talking to michonne about them thinking rick is wrong, so he definitely didn't leave

ahh thanks. my dvr usually cuts off before the following weeks previews are shown.

I just read this, it is an interesting theory...but I just don't think in that state of mind would have been able to pick up on something like this.

i don't know why people still look for subtle clues on this show. it has literally never panned out (remember "enid backwards is 'dine' and she was reading a comic about wolves!"). this show doesn't do subtlety

heh. I do not disagree. someone mentioned it in passing this morning, so I decided to read up on it. while far fetched; it is not the worst theory I have read. the real problem is it is way too smart for the show. which you pretty much summed up in reference to the show being not so subtle.

i mean, it's possible. especially if those people all came up with "east" independently of each other. i just literally can't recall this show ever doing anything like that. and like you said, even if that was the case it's insanely unrealistic that they'd know to do that and actually pull it off (unless they retcon in a flashback where they actually discuss doing specifically that). not to mention, "east"? oh shit negan, they know exactly where you are now!!!

there are some rumors that the 'all out war' storyline will play out by the season finale. I get they pace things differently...but this needs 2 seasons to flesh out in my opinion. guess we will see.

hmmm. yeah, that would be kind of anticlimactic i think. either you start the war soon, which doesn't really establish either negan or the kingdom very well beforehand, or you make the war only one or two episodes which doesn't really do it justice compared to the comics. but who knows. maybe that would make this season not seem to drag so badly in the middle like this show often does although  one of the promos for the season was a head on a stick, which seems to point towards the whisperers coming sooner than later and would lend credence to that  -- but then they'd be almost caught up with the comics. and do they really want to do that?

oh also, i don't really get how rick saying judith isn't his is considered a big "reveal." like, how would he know? ok so he doesn't believe she's his, i guess that's a kind of reveal in itself insofar as the character and what drives him, but come on. he didn't take a dna test and people "just knowing" things like that are demonstrably not accurate

I think that was the bigger part, rick admitting it out loud to the person he now loves. the guy can live in denial and it came off as something that had being weighing on him for some time.

as for the spoiler you mentioned. I have yet to see that part of a preview. I wonder if it will be a one off teaser of what is to come, or if it will be the very memorable and emotional scene from the comic. when I saw that panel, it shook me far more than anything else in the comics ever had. you knew something was going to happen after all the quick cut shots to the carnival...but wow.

this was released as a "teaser image" for the season. and it definitely resembles that thing you're talking about

first I have seen of that. that just seems like so much to fit in to one season...unless they do the predictable cliffhanger at the end of the season on that shot.

so...I liked a few moments from last night's episode. it was just so dull for the majority. I can take filler episodes but this one just needed a little more. as a viewer it did me well to see maggie, sasha and jesus unite.

looks like we get the carl story we discusses before.

what was the point of postponing that? just to give enid something to do? i'm also not a big fan of the change to the jesus story because apparently rick really is just completely subservient to negan?

I think for now, but I think they have shown enough of rick having to supress his anger...to let us know it will not stand for long.

I have no idea why they waited a week for carl to make his move. guess it was just to add jesus to that situation and maybe have a different story play out. if everything comes to a sort of reasonable conclusion by the end of the season. meaning negan is ousted/killed/prisoned and the next threat does show up as some images have shown. then what? could the speed up in storytelling mean they plan to take the show in a different direction than the comic.

could Enid be Lydia? I know they explained Enid's backstory but that could be her cover. I dunno. I am just looking for something to justify her character.

if they surpass the books i will be upset. this show has enough issues as it is without getting rid of that safety net, for one thing. and also game of thrones similarly sped up the story and quickly surpassed the books for no reason and that's when that show officially drove off a fuckin cliff

also can i just point out how utterly stupid the rollerskating scene was? first of all, he happens to find two pairs of working skates that happen to fit them both? and secondly, those roads would be covered in debris after so long not being used regularly. there's no way they'd be able to skate on there without tripping over a twig every 5 feet

haha. I half expected a walker to snag enid while they were skating.

I was more annoyed with the attack on hilltop. first off how did they get the gate open...and where was everyone at? just a really poorly executed part of the episode.

edit. just saw episode 8 is title sing me a song. we know what is coming in that episode (sort of).

a co-worker said he thought he saw bodies hanging from the gate posts. I guess I either have bad eyes or he is way off.
