I'm seeing The Dayglo Abortions next week and The Casualties have top billing (blasphemy).

Do you guys hate that band or respect them for their unapologetic commitment to being Spiky Hair Drunk Punx to the bitter end?

the casualties are one of the most annoying, terrible bands i've ever heard in my life.

casualties are fucking awful. dayglo abortions rule though.

i think the riff at the start of this song is one of my favourite riffs ever. how it goes from the strummed trills to the melodic picked bit. so good.

the wipers kind of embody the whole 'underrated punk' theme this thread has. they were never in a scene and didn't really sound like anyone else yet their sound became influential for alt rock further on due to the melodic strength of their songs.

so in the latest weird announcement apparently the warped tour is coming here after a 10 year hiatus.

Great band, though I'm most partial to "LP III" myself.

I couldn't even tell you maybe like punknews or whatever. I just know about bands from the west coast mainly because I just have a few friends that tell about shit. For like pop-punk updates(steinways/houseboat/for science esque pop-punk) the pop punk message bored is a good thing to check

I got to see Total Control from Australia the other night. They do the dark synth/post-punk thing so well, but they still almost had the show stolen by Grass Widow! Seriously, I slept on these gals for so long 'cos I assumed they were some kind of limp indie/garage bullshit but what they're doing is really much closer to the Vivian Girls. Totally fuzzed out punkish pop with three-part harmonies. I missed Neon Piss and Synthetic ID, but they always kill it.

Thinking about checking out legendary NZ poppers, The Bats, this weekend.

edit: That new Grass Widow/Shannon & the Clams 7" where they cover "Unbelievable" by EMF and "The Power" by Snap, respectively, is essential listening.

they're one of those bands that just the name alone tells you a.) exactly what type of pop punk they are b.) when they were most active and c.) what their album covers look like.

so i've been obsessed with these guys lately:

they're like a perfect mixture of late 70s style punk (kind of like x, and not just because of a female singer) and r.e.m. style jangly college rock, with a slight gothic atmosphere. it's like everything i love in one band.
