so is there any doubt that the Sydney test wasn't rigged?

Watching it at the time, it sprang to mind immediately after the fourth dropped catch. I didn't see any of the England test but it wouldn't surprise me

the fact that hauritz got all those wickets sent the alarm bells ringing. he is basicly a weekend park player standard spinner.

sounds like he has done alright at domestic level and he is from WA, which might add something. i'm glad Smith replaced Doherty anyway, he never looked like taking a wicket.

should be the end of North if there is any justice. he's been awful in every test at home

never should have dropped johnson, he should be opening. warney comeback must happen, if it does it will be the biggest thing in australian sport ever, he will be bigger than bradman

top run scorer and leading wicket taker, i bet that hasnt happened in tests much.

so sad to see ponting now, he should just leave now with at least a bit of dignity

and take clarke with him. i still have faith that ponting can score but clarke looks a nervous wreck in every innings. johnson has been my favourite bowler since the McGrath/Warne era, very glad to see him taking wickets

bring on Boxing Day

The Aussie batting has completely fallen apart - unbelievable.

I think the quality of bowling has won it for us in the end though. Englands bowlers don't give much away.

even the test they won wasn't a good performance all around. never known a side to be able to win with 3 guys playing well. so glad i didn't go on Day 1, the coverage was hard enough to watch.

it will be a miracle if they can make England bat again

The Aussies have looked unfit. When the temperature has risen they've started to look tired and the bowling has slowed down, whereas our players have stayed focused. This really isn't a great England team though so I'm surprised we've put in such decent batting, with a fairly weak lower order.

Great bowling though from Anderson and Swann throughout, and Tremlett and Bresnan when they've played.

it's frustrating that England can bring in a bowler for Finn who is their leading wicket taker and this substitute basically wins the game.

i have no hope for Sydney and expect it will be the last time we see Ponting

well there is as almost as many english people there as there is in england.

seriously tho, i don't think there is any positives to come out of this for australia. hussey scored a lot of runs, but surely he doesnt have long to go. siddle had 2 innings where he got wickets but he's not a strike weapon as evidenced by the failure to win the 2 matches that he showed up for. ponting doesn't deserve to be captain after losing 3 ashes series, but there is no viable option. i guess clarke, but does anybody actually like him?

no i hate Twenty20 for what it is. i still find ODI's more interesting

ponting is supposedly too injured to play Sydney but i really see it as a chance to see how we go without the captain in a dead rubber. but with their spirits as high as possible, England should do it easily

chances are that ricky is finished - the next test match is in august, that will give them time to fully assess the situation and they will surely want to start a new era. the dificult part is they will want him for the world cup but by firing him frm tests will not make him happy going into that tournament, very awkward situation.

20/20 is what it is - exciting, but doesnt mean anything. no 20/20 match/innings/bowling will ever be remembered in history, it requires a limited amount of skill. i put a lot of blame of australia's poor performance on 20/20 - bowlers can no longer create dismissals because they are so accustomed to 20/20 where the batsman gets himself out due to error. same with the batting - no patience caused that run out. most of england's test team do not play the shorter forms of the game.
it's only big because india are into it, but now that india are going well in tests there is also interest in tests there.

If Anderson hadn't been rested, it might've been a different story earlier. Either way, we've just come off the back of a truly memorable Ashes victory, and I still think we're much better placed going into the World Cup than the Aussies.

World Cup 2011

Don't think it will generate enough discussion to warrant its own thread but it at least deserves a bold underlined title within this thread

Group A
Australia
Canada
Kenya
New Zealand
Pakistan
Sri Lanka
Zimbabwe

Group B
Bangladesh
England
India
Ireland
Netherlands
South Africa
West Indies

Top 4 from each advance to the quarter finals after everyone plays everyone else in the group

Both Groups should go to form and qualifiers will be predictable but the order should be interesting.

In group B I see the west indies losing out to bangladesh for the 4th spot.

I predict a final of South Africa Vs India with the hosts coming out on top

I've done fantasy cricket at cricketweb.net which people are more than welcome to join me in. I'm thinking of placing a couple of long shot bets after I've seen the warm up matches this weekend. A few combination bets with low stakes and long odds.

All in all I'm looking forward to the competition quite a bit

i've got either sri lanka or south africa winning, most runs gayle or sangakara, most wickets steyn or johnson (i know it's spin-friendly pitches, i just don't see any quality spinners)

if we do win the other teams will have to take a long, hard look at themself and ask some serious questions because we are pretty bad at the moment. this most recent series i'd put down to eng being fatigued/not giving a shit.

Just been down the betting shop and placed a bunch of small bets to make things more interesting. It's just a shame that the options were so limited. I wasn't even able to create my own doubles. Just singles and pre designated doubles allowed.

SL to win @ 4-1
Sangakkara to be top batsman @ 14-1
Malinga to be the top wicket taker @ 9-1
SL to top group A and India to top group B @ 2-1
India to be the runners up @ 7-2
India and SL to be the finalists @ 9-1
India to win all their group games @ 2-1
SL to win and Sangakkara to be top batsman @ 33-1

Only bet 8 total on this and if they all come in I'll have 84.50

Australia and South africa to be the finalists @ 16-1
Greame Smith to be the tournament top runscorer @ 20 -1

Only bet 1 in total on these 2 since they are definately less likely to happen but if they do happen then I'll be the proud owner of 19

That and the fantasy cricket should make things much more interesting. Really looking forward now
