I don't have a good feeling about this...

My friend scanned this from the newspaper a while back. So what the hell is going on here? Interpretations? As my coworker said "it's like Bergman directed a Blondie."

Everything about this unsettles me. The empty, ugly room, the BLACK BALLOON, the look on Dagwood's face. The "..." which implies something horrible is just around the corner.

mr. broom 11-20-2009 11:03 AM

Little avant-garde for the space next to the horoscopes, that's for sure

bmac 11-20-2009 11:24 AM

clearly someone robbed dagwood of all his possessions and left the black balloon as a calling card that he'll eventually be back to brutally murder his whole family

comic strips are so funny

joe 11-20-2009 11:25 AM

the reflections on the floor make no sense.

mikel 11-20-2009 11:28 AM

maybe he was dreading hearing a goo goo dolls song

Jared 11-20-2009 12:06 PM

Do you know if it's a daily or just a single panel from a Sunday strip?

jordan 11-20-2009 12:26 PM

I believe it was a single panel. I asked him though just to 100% confirm.

yeah the floor hurts my brain

jordan 11-20-2009 12:32 PM

Maybe they are dried up blood stains.

Or like those shadowy demons from "Ghost" rising from the ground to claim Dagwood's soul.

sacrelicious 11-20-2009 12:49 PM

I'm sure the Death Star is rapidly approaching...

NO IT IS NOT

"i have a bad feeling about this" vs "i don't have a good feeling about this"

i don't mean to be rude but you are incorrect, sir

sacrelicious 11-20-2009 12:59 PM

Don't care

jordan 11-20-2009 01:00 PM

All that's missing from this strip is a pair of swinging legs coming from the top of the frame.

Cash Kerouac 11-20-2009 01:08 PM

Clearly, Dagwood has died and is in purgatory. The black balloon he's carrying is his soul. He hasn't done anything to put him in hell, but his lifetime of laziness and eating elaborate sandwiches mean that he's going to be here a long time, and he knows it. Come on guys, pretty obvious.

you mean the shadow the wall is casting, or the wood grain patterns in the floorboards?

pepper 11-20-2009 01:40 PM

those stupid vertical lines on the floor

Enter The Moleman 11-20-2009 01:43 PM

oh, I see those as separations between boards. At least a stylized or lazy way to draw them.

jordan 11-20-2009 01:45 PM

Not to mention the BLACK BALLOON seems to be reflecting a window of some sort.

my friends' band named their first EP 'I Have A Bad Feeling About This' after that.

That's a pretty standard reflection shape though.

looks like they are reflecting windows, but alas, no windows.

eddie 11-20-2009 02:33 PM

good to see moleman dropping the cartooning knowledge in here :nerdbang:

hrmm, i did some googling and i can't find any explanation for this. very strange...

brentmoney 11-20-2009 04:00 PM

really hoping this was another pathetic dilemma of halls of eye again

Mayor Quimby 11-20-2009 04:09 PM

I figured it was a spin off to the Office thread...because you know how important that is to his life.

rubber cat 11-20-2009 04:24 PM
